Description
This is a 1/12 scale reproduction of the MotoGP bike driven by Italian rider Loris Capirossi in the 2006 Championship. The Italian firm raced in the 2006 MotoGP season with two teams: the Ducati Marlboro Team directly managed by the factory, which ran the “official”, 2006 bikes (Desmosedici GP6), and the Pramac D’Antin MotoGP private team, which used the previous year factory bikes (Desmosedici GP5).
The Ducati Marlboro Team inscribed two drivers for the 2006 season: Spaniard Sete Gibernau with #15, and the Italian Loris Capirossi (a 3 time World Champion in the 125cc and 250cc categories) under #65. Two more pilots also raced for the factory team that year, as replacement riders: #66 Alex Hoffmann and #12 Troy Bayliss. These riders replaced Gibernau in up to 4 races as the Spanish was injured at the 7th event of the season (the Catalan GP at Circuit de Catalunya), while Capirossi managed to race all the 17 events of the season, including wins in the Spanish GP at Jerez (opening event of the season), Czech Republic GP at Brno and Japan GP at Motegi, for a final 3rd position in the Championship rankings behind 2006 World Champion Nicky Hayden (Honda) and 2nd position rider Valentino Rossi (Yamaha).

This model represents one very specific unit of the Desmosedici GP6: the one driven by Loris Capirossi at the 6th round of the 2006 MotoGP season: the Italian GP at Mugello, which took place on June 4th 2006. The bike raced this event with a special, “tricolore” livery (with the red-white-green colors of the Italian flag plus a silver arrow) instead of the regular red-white Marlboro livery used by the team during the rest of the season. The model is made by Ixo, a diecast maker based in Macau (China), in a exclusive series for Spanish publisher Altaya.
